Repairing the past

Furniture made by previous generations tells a tale. I find interest in the materials used, joints and function of the piece, and keeping this furniture in a beautiful useful condition is important for future knowledge of how the past was lived.

I have built up a vast collection of wood, veneers, screws and escutcheons from unsaveable pieces which I am able to use to repair your antiques and family heirlooms.

It isn’t just antiques I restore, I also work with mid-century pieces as well as on furniture made by famous contemporary designers.

Below are some pictures of furniture I have restored.

This late Victorian linen press in stunning rich mahogany had several pieces of veneer missing as well as thicker edge banding that had been worn away with its 140 years of use. I made new mahogany edge banding to precise thickness and found matching veneer from my stocks. Giving the whole piece a touch up made it into a fantastic piece of history.

These chairs were designed and made in the early 80s by the very famous designer John Makepeace OBE. After having been used every day for the last 40 years, they needed a complete overhaul. I completely disassembled these chairs, sanded, reglued and finally refinished them. There were 10 in total, all with varing amounts of damage, several having legs completely broken off!

The owner was so happy with the chairs on their ruturn, I was asked to re-finish the dining table that was made with it. This was done in-situ due to the size and weight of the table, using top-of-the-line extraction systems.

Pictured below is the table after the re-finishing. There is also a picture showing half the table sanded (for a before and after)

Reducing the scratches and making new beading was required on this piece. The top of this also slides out, the mechanism of which I had to repair.
